a thirst for grace

a thirst for grace

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

a thirst for grace

splintered rehab,

vodka lies

under a cushion of hiding eyes

a drink under the table of lust

others turn in disgust,

a child, they say

such disaster in her red cheeks

swollen skin, blushed lips

half in, half out of herself

walking naked down a dark road

everyone with flashlight curiosity

shining their judgment upon her

she shoves the bottle under her imaginary coat

takes a swig of abstinence

then ages a couple years with another swig

trips on some gravel

and falls into moonlit reflection

of what she might have been

had that cunning label

not persuaded her

this would be her redemption.-

and Calvary was only a few sips away.

A lonely poem toting a sad reality under that coat as well. This was very deep Jacob, a touching write.

You pack a lot of power in your words, Jacob! If this doesn't make one feel, then truly heartless. Awesome reach, sir

the title puts such a sadness to this, I can't quite place it. searching for something she will never find in that bottle, who knows what pain or sorrow she is trying to drink away trying to hide. What is it she is trying to drown, because she isn't doing it successfully, and the sad thing is the odds aren't with her that she ever will.

a truly sorrowful write...

Oh Jacob.... see... this was blue printed out so perfectly with the "constructive heart"
My reaction?............. I cried.
It's not just about Alcohol.
This is so many of those " There but by Grace go I "
It pains me so, when i see the young girl or boy self- destruct, by many ways and deeds.
This write describes so well that view from the watcher.
I think even the victim could see the image so well by this write.
Know what ? I'd like to see this printed and posted on all the town community boards.
The grocery store ,laundry mat etc. Can I ?

The call of the substance of the day that will allow you to maintain or at least give you that perception. And so easily after realizing the errors of your ways, the call comes out again to have just one, it will be alright.

Lots to view within this work and the addiction call comes through. Very nice.

This writer's style is unique, and it is becoming more familiar to me. While there is consistency among his works, there is a fresh improvising through out, though subtle - think, good jazz.

judgement of yourself and others is a powerful thing. I enjoyed the line about everyone with flashlight curiosity shining judgement. It's easy to judge someone until you've walked naked down the same path. I see so many people aged prematurely from their substance abuse, yet at the same time be incredibly stunted emotionally.

'had that cunning label
not persuaded her
this would be her redemption'

This seems to sum up the irresponsible advertising that goes into marketing poison. On the other hand, perhaps humans find some way or other to self-destruct.
