the usual broken promises

the usual broken promises

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

the usual broken promises

levitation,

wishes rising like reverse snowflakes

icicle inclusions

resolutions, like

letting love melt a stoic heart

banished

maybe tomorrow,

maybe the same wishes next year

maybe imagination of a conflagration

dampens the match,

and those snowflakes find the ground

unabated

undated,

he finds shelter from his own happiness

and drinks a toast

to loneliness,

safely absolute

that he won't con-volute his mind

with such matters as attachment.

It is prudent not to rely on promises for the same are usually made to be broken

I like the idea of broken promises as it relates to new year's resolutions.

This piece captures it well.

The new years and the over rated promises we break out of
Like a beautiful snowflake flying in such elegance to hit a pile on the floor

so bad for the existence of words that are not followed through by action

Because if they held true ingenuity they need no particular day of the year

As snowflakes come and go as does love one often falls back on oneself for happiness. Another profound write!

thank you for your words, andrew.

Resolutions are rather formal pronouncements of things certain people wish they had the strength to do; rarely, do they become things those people actually do.
Of course, you've said this and much more in another of your profoundly perceptive poems.
Impressive stuff!

thank you for your kind review, Jimmy.

I like the honesty in this poem because people exclaim so many different resolutions on this day and what do they come to? Almost nothing and maybe they'll have the same ones next year.
