A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

from time to time

a new year,

an old poem

an older poet

with confetti pen,

horns and whistles

instead of rhymes

shaving more time off the clock

with graying facial hair

and gnarled hands

turning in arthritis ticks

seconds of syllables removed  from un-scenic stanzas

a photo shoot of less elegance

growing pains

dusty rains

the outpouring of words

demanding declarative insolence

truant loves partying elsewhere,

as i greet

a new year

with an old poem

becoming an even older poet

than i was before that clock

had a voice,

and my eyes

were a clear, dry sky.

As a friend, use my handkerchief... Better yet, let the year warm the coldness of a forgotten face... Greet the youthfulness of the new year and live vicariously in the ingnorance of unlimited hope.
I felt the poetry Jacob. I know you write to create a feeling rather than purging pent up frustrations, but this write begs my heart to share a glimmer of light in a dark reality.
Well penned! You hit me with this one.

Enjoyed reading the poem, flows very smoothly. Aging isn't that bad, don't they say it only makes you wiser?

The new year brings reflection...and wondering about the past. Yes, we are getting older, no doubt of that, my friend. Still, is that such a bad thing? I would like to think we are wiser and perhaps our new poetry shows that. We never quite remember those truant loves the way they REALLY were. They all seem a lot better in memory. Like Barbara Streisand sang, "Can it be that it was all so simple then or has time rewritten every line?" Don't rewrite your old lines, my friend....the new ones are far better. Lydi**

Opinions are, well...opinions. I'm saying these stanzas look pretty scenic to me :) Aging is good. The older it is the better it is. I love antiques, have a house full of them, out last anything new I've ever bought, and there something to be said about aged liquor, and "sharp" cheddar :)

I love the contrast here of old and new
Two opposing forces
and somehow one will win over the other

Only we pass that moment of change
to sit in our own comfort
and hold on to something of value that lived through time and proved itself

Reflections on another year being ticked off the list, as we wonder what will be in store for the coming one and hoping it will have better days than expected. That's all we can ask for. Beautifully worded thoughts Jacob.

Oh this is great! I love the way the words just fall on your aging self, causing you to bend with time's tide. Tick tock, tick tock as two older men become old man sages.

Regards,
Al

Ah, my friend 'tis true, but we hopefully gain with that advance in age, bits of wisdom gained by experience that might not have come when we were younger. I know my poetry has changed, my views of life have changed, but the love within me has remained and it is that love that allows me to carry on, to pick up my pen again though with each tick tock of the clock I am a second closer to that which comes to each of us. I tip my hat to you, knowing that you shall remain a wonderful poet, even with your noted signs of aging! I say, an even better poet at that!! Please just remember to LOVE, above all other things!
