mad love

mad love

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

mad love

fleeced eccentricity
counting sheep like ink blots
in a night of courtship with the muse

and she denies
sleep,
yet won't allow my mind exploration
upon her paper skin

the sun slips arrogantly through the shades
with a pertinent grin
in response to my chagrin

another break-up between
creativity and me
but as a parting gift
she lends me a newer, quirkier pen

and gives me a goodbye word
on the cheek.

Perhaps we should have permanently dismissed ink blots with the advent of the ballpoint pen--and "interpreting" such blots when tea leaf reading precipitously--and rightfully--declined.
Enjoyed this extremely creative conjuring of the metaphorical mystique.

I really love this. I like poetry that is beautifully obscure. I didn't know exactly what you were speaking of till..."upon her paper skin" and then it clicked and the rest of the poem flowed over my mind like a soothing melody. I can relate to the experience in this poem as a writer myself and the way you spoke of your frustration as a courtship between you and the muse is brilliant because that's how I think it is. Excellent poem and word play!

This is cute, sir j. The metaphor of your muse to a sweet woman...As I see, you are madly in love with writing. Your pen never dries with ink.
Always smart. Please continue sharing your talent with us.

J, I love the personification here, and I wish my muse would be so kind at times. Those squabbles are a real b***h to deal with...fickle. I've never found anyone who thinks their muse is masculine..very telling of how even womanhood sees itself.
Loved the creativity of this and the word on the cheek in parting.

Wonderfully captured essence of that elusive temptress that steals so many of our thoughts and replaces them with just enough to quench our thirst temporarily. I have been midway through a piece for over a week now and all I seem to get is the busy signal when I call. But we put up with what little she gives us.
She has done well with this Jacob :)

Yes...the muse. Ever elusive when we are looking but often there when we are not. Well captured. I think many can relate to this.

The insanity of inspiration. So true.
I wonder if the the kiss is always worth the suffering?

I think sometimes we keep ourselves up all night, begging and begging our muse to talk to us, to acknowledge we exist, if not partake in an inspiring romance. I'm in awe of your words, once again. thank you for all of the reviews of late.
