no Samaritan, just souls sold at auction

no Samaritan, just souls sold at auction

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

no Samaritan, just souls sold at auction

Black Friday, nailed to the cross

by material witnesses

can't buy freedom,

only amass more goods

to lead us from store to store

and then to a certain Calvary of the heart

a crucifixion of credit

from which there is no resurrection.

The madness of the sales season is impossible to avoid, try as we might. Consumerism at its finest. Great write!

thank you for your words, Zeitnot...

Eloquently puts into words the unfortunate nature of Black Friday. The line "can't but freedom, can only amass more goods" especially rings true. Thanks for the interesting poem!

A bunch of fake Jesus's filling the shopping bags of more and more and more. It will be a long time before Easter arrives!

Shop-worn holiday lament done uniquely and masterfully.
Kudos to a metaphorical maven!

I like how you've summed up the transformation of Christmas from a religious festival into a frenzy of marketing and consumption!

I think few people understand what materialism actually is...
You have clearly shed light on this very important subject.
Well done!

The last two lines are awesome! Your poem is great, and it makes me wonder. Since you went back to the crucifixion, I wonder how we ended up like this. Very thought provoking

Oh, ain't it the truth? On Thanksgiving, we profess to have such gratitude for the things we possess and then on Black Friday we hunt down bargains pushing every other person out of the way to achieve our goal. So many overspend this time of year and then pay for it with interest all year long. I don't shop on Thanksgiving weekend. It is pure insanity to me. Good one here. Lydi**
