Almost never has the American people been truly welcoming to the new immigrants. But the torch still burns. It burns even now, even though we might not notice it. Will it ignite a fire and destroy us, or will it ignite a fire and help us thrive. The kind of fire. That is I think the question underlying this poem. The torch is about to do work, but for which direction. We have no choice but to find out.
