an autumn picture of Dorian Gray

an autumn picture of Dorian Gray

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

an autumn picture of Dorian Gray

i watch summer shed its foliage

the dark blue sedan in my heart's driveway

from disuse,

amassing brown oak leaves,

once vibrant during the summer of love

now the slightest October breeze

and the tree of life stands naked,

wondering if it will withstand

one more winter,

as it tries to live on memories alone

while the heart looking through the window's frame

looks the same as ever.

For some reason
I see a man
Counting one more year
Possibly waiting for someone
Thinking
Am i going to survive one more hardship
holding on to this love
until we meet again
Can i actually do this

I love the story Dorian Gray and how well you weave this into nature's turning of the season Autumn . A master in disguise, covered.

I admire a great deal how you conjure up a thought... and put it to poetry!

Very nicely done Jacob. The songs may change but it's still the same station you're tuned to.

The earth sheds her skin and awaits her rebirth. The heart we carry has no such cycle and so it remains in stasis as it watches. I love the apt allusion to Dorian Gray.
