A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

a Billboard Life

among "everyday people"

is a "nowhere man,"

who's no longer listening,

and a "Woman with cheating on her mind"

and little children getting quarters

to keep quiet,

and there is "me and you and a dog named boo"

and there is a poem

and all of us looking for a syllable on which to sit

because that last train is heading to Clarksville

full of memories of soldiers running "through the jungle"

never looking back,

and after the waitress

pours me a final cup of coffee,

i listen to Cream

singing "Crossroads"

realize i am at mine

and give that Joe,

one more cube

of "Sugar Sugar"

and stir thoughts of you,

as the dog scratches at the door

and the cold autumn breeze

whispers "Let me In."

lots of good songs that go with memories. I was hoping Summer Breeze at the end but it was autumn. Nice work J

i don't think i have to tell you that this one spoke to me...loud and clear.

this is so perfectly penned.

it conjures up images of junior high school dances, sock hops and sitting on my bedroom floor spinning my 45s....

love this!

Youve penned a picture of sitting in a sidewalk cafe with your morning coffee, reading your much anticipated issue of Bill Board. Great vision and excellent choices of music, (but I fear you've showed our age) no matter though music is made to span the generations.

Sounds interesting. Story-teller you be seemed to this very poetry. It's fascinating to write things - the reality - in words. There's some kinda memories oft. left in words when you get bled in ..
I happen to know, when you capture reality in pages, in words, in verses, in thesis, you ain't just save memories .. but also get "saved" either with memories alongside that further reminds' you the time you've been in, later on. Kinda like the way you play with words. intriguing stuff!

Music is so special.

I love how you've so cleverly used song lyrics to convey everyday life.
My favourite lines are:
and give that Joe,
one more cube
of "Sugar Sugar"

You've given life to this piece of work and made it dance.
I got goosebumps reading it!

The door is open, the arms wide and ready for greeting, play that song one more time, will run across the bridge of troubled waters, look for that one who first home in a box and damn near worry that nixon will be locked up.

You took me back and I loved it..........Thanks for the ride to memory! Great stuff!

Awhh, really a great piece of writing. Here.. like how you incorporate all the lyrics and just at the right places.

That final cup of coffee always seems to need a little more 'sugar sugar'
Well done..

Jacob, great use of lyrics to flesh this one out. Snippets float through the mind like background music in a movie, as we watch this common Joe peruse his life and the choices facing him. So is he waiting for the Woman with cheating on her mind, I can almost hear Kenny singing Lucille from another corner. Does he give into the whispers on the wind? You leave us to wonder, but not in a way that frustrates. It leave me more introspective of that cool autumn wind.
Love reading your work, hopefully my comments do it some justice.
