lake effect

lake effect

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

lake effect

you are my mirror

glass eyes

blue streaks of prying

red cheeks of crying

darting pupils

darkening, learning, educated

a degree in separation

diploma of desperation

cracks in prism potential

i see a face behind me

opposite lines reflected in abstract aging

a heart like peeling wallpaper

you unwrap parallel emotions

with such ease,

i become a graduate in signature severance

took years,

lots of winsome Windex clarity

and closing gaps of disparity.

now the bottle's empty

but i am filled with understanding.

thank you for your letters, William...

this is truly an amazing piece....

the terrific sensory imagery and alliteration make the piece come alive.

i really like the 3rd and 4th stanzas...

and I really love "Windex clarity". Brilliant.

there is a sadness to this piece, because the speaker can see his own decline in the "mirrored" lake; but it also uplifting because the speaker emerges from those dark waters with a sense of enlightenment.

Only at the end it becomes all too clear but alas its the end of the chapter. Only if it could be rewritten

I have years before I even reach this level of clarity. Life is still a long journey of learning and reflecting on one's mistakes. Lessons learned. What I gathered is most of which can be resolved with good ol' fashion common sense, yet sometimes gets clouded haha always good to have some good ol' windex around for times like that.

Looking at your reflection through a drink, one becomes lost in the years travelled, what you have achieved and where you are now! A layered write!

A wonderful self perspective Jacob. The ending says so much to me. We lose one thing, gain another and so it shall always be.
