point of no return

point of no return

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

point of no return

whirlybird bottle

lips trembling as they near edges

of insanity,

seventh grade phenomenon

old coke glass, label spinning

my fingers twirling eminent danger

you sitting across, hands folded upon

your skin tight jeans,

your smile aimed at me

as the helicopter emotions

fly from my heart to yours

suddenly the room stops breathing

inertia of the mind,

eyes averted

my heart starts to beat again,

in another direction,

she smiles

i come out of insecurity's asylum

and kiss the other girl,

who lives on the outside

of possibility...

I LOVE flippy endings....it is always a complete LIFT or maybe an exhale following the complete fall into what went before! Especially enjoy your choice of words...

thank you for your kind review. Penlady.

This is fantastic Jacob. That youthful fear and longing, and as you brilliantly say, your helicopter emotions, not sure which outcome it wants, panicked, excited and very probably relieved that the result takes the decision that we want and don't, away from us. Great ending, kiss the other girl, who lives on the outside of possibility. Conjures a barely noticed other.

thank you for your insightful words, alife.

I am like watching a movie scene with 3 people involved. Some things come at the right time, some don't.
Nice piece.
