any time you reach a "point of no return" it is both terrifying and liberating. no matter what it is.
what i love most about this piece is that it so perfectly conjures up those images of adolescent excitement and wonder... the trepidation, the fear, the utter excitement.
best of all, it's a metaphor for the rest of our lives...
Oh to be in 7th grade again. What I wouldn't give to go back knowing what I know now.. I wouldn't change a thing because I'm still insecure of the outcome... go figure. Always a pleasure

i love this ..my first and only experience with spin the bottle was horrible ..i never felt such anxiety ridden excitement before .. and the girls tried hard to fix the thing because they all had preconceived notions to fulfill ... she spun and it stopped on me ..we were sent to the closet to smooch in "private" (one of the girls rules) we simply were much to awkward to do anything but whisper and hold hands ... thats all i remember of the event and never played it again ... perhaps i should get Norma my beloved and fix my own game :))) love your poem .. so relatable ..takes me back to the best of times

thank you for sharing your experience and how you related to the poem.
They never leave you those moments. Shape your entire life. Most us of have them, so maybe its not insanity or asylums because well the walls would have to enclose the planet or maybe that's the point? I wanted to see a nod to every day insanity mundane asylums, but not to the author in the experience no? Thank you.
Do we always want the one we can't have...the one we will never have and perhaps should not have? Liked the reference to "coke glass"....I remember friends who wore thick glasses and were ostracized for that. We are who we were at 13, aren't we? The same insecurities follow us through life. It's a shame. Lydi**

I think insecurity is an emotion since we seem to carry it around with us for our entire lives. "Keats
proved that greatness descends on the novice only after he has opened himself up to the risk of failure
and embarrassment". And it can be a kind of asylum, which raw desire has become in 2015. My
philosophy is that the prettiest girl is always the most accessible one. Who made that song Jacob,
"Love the one your with"?
I love this...dana

sigh I can already feel the butterflies in my stomach as I think about my first crush. A life time ago. It's amazing how those feelings stays with us. Filed in our memory banks with the same emotions; packed with excitement and anxiety. I guess it doesn't last; because it was not real, but still memorable.
