bending hearts

bending hearts

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

bending hearts

empathy's insurance

a policy of understanding,

the world has defaulted payment

of premiums

and now the collision of hate and love

has totaled the vehicle of faith

the adjuster is adjunct to the wistful woe

of crushed sentiment,

the damage equivalent

to what we see in a graveyard of

so called-caring,

he submits the claim,

but no one will profit,

we don't care enough to

and the replacement hearts

are as empty

as the shallow bite

of a junkyard dog

with no teeth.

thank you, rubie.

That dog may not have teeth, but the final stanza sure as hell does. Combines your normal deftness of wordplay with even more punch than the norm.

dear Jacob... I read the analogy as how we
feel about our country. Our leaders surely
must know that our international strategy is
so critical that even the leaders and the most
wealthy will surely fail and fade into oblivion
if our leaders do not do what is best for our
Nation. All the money some may possess will
not save our country if there is so
much Division, that nothing can be accomplished.
truly, Pat

You're welcome
Never a truer word said, as we say in these here parts. Gets to the point from the first line on how the one thing we should value, has been eradicated from most peoples minds, in a generation where too many sentences start I and me, and too few you and they. Superbly written piece Jacob.

Funny enough we insured what could stand a loss
Yet what we could never afford losing
is left unclaimed
unprotected

Written to a truth
Nature of heart
