The id of flirtation's consequence

The id of flirtation's consequence

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

The id of flirtation’s consequence

wool sweaters

warm the skin,

but the heart wears a light jacket

in a November wind,

the chill melts with malfeasance

the eyes wander

and winter becomes raw with mistrust

as the snow surprises

and we are inadequately dressed

to sustain the love

that was born out of

an egotistical April rain.

love the metaphor....you make it work so well.

yes, our hearts are never dressed appropriately for the storms to which we expose them.....

warms my heart to read this...haha...love the metaphor here! It's very clever; and wisdom to heed. Too often we go out prepared for cold weather, not realizing we left our hearts...vulnerable to the frost. Gives me shivers.

You're welcome, j. Your poetry always inspires.
"The snow surprises"... nothing worse than being unprepared for the frost... as always, Jacob, your metaphors are masterful.

55 degrees when I woke up and cut on the space heater. Recalling just how egoistical April was
for tempting us with 55 degrees. But I understand. Love takes time to warm up to any
sympatholytic reasoning. Often times showing up like the cold on a spring day, or the warmth
on a November afternoon. the analogy here is both radical and symmetrical, but I love it......dana

'The eyes wander.' That seems to be the first hint that the air in the heart is becoming colder. I like your metaphors here, they signify a shaky start to me. Perhaps a womanizer is involved or just boredom has seeped in. Either way, the way a foundation is built means a lot.

Good one Jacob.

There is a twinkle of silver in the gray days...I always hear it in your words ....feel it ...even when your mood is damp or regretful.

We are all supposedly creatures of instinct, yet how that instinct so often fails and we end up suffering the consequences.

Inadequately dressed indeed!

A love or a passion that burns hot burns out far too quickly to keep you warm when the cold, harsh winter hits. Beautiful writing, evoking imagery that changes with the seasons.
