A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

stillborn signature

my heart's been kicked

in its symmetrical shin

and now it is lyrically limping

with a dull ache of apostrophe

a Dickinson's dead perspective

the grave of the garrulous gumption

i used to have,

but now this speaker is shy enough syllables

to complete his rhythm

and he's dancing in front of you

awkwardly moving as a manifestation

of the ghost he used to be

when our spirits cut the poetic rug

as one

and love was still an idea

in gestation.
