Bounced

Bounced

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Bounced

suspended animation

heart in flux

trampoline feelings

come down too heavy

break the springs,

summer smiles hibernate

fall

is losing balance

i've hit my head of reason

on the gnarled ground,

concussive state of mind

i won't jump there again,

i'll just sit this winter out.

what i love about this piece is how you have seamlessly blended the metaphors of seasons and a trampoline bounce. you've brought two unlike notions together to say that although we may find ourselves uncontrollably going from one season, emotion, relationship, etc. to the next, we are still in control when we want to holler "enough! stop the world; i want to get off!"

and while we really cannot completely escape from life bouncing us around, we can always "sit one out" until we are ready to get back on this wild ride we call life.

thank you for your insights, rubie.

Season is like a trampoline...you're going to different levels/heights, and as you enjoy each level, you will notice you continuously change (elevation) until finally you come down to where you've started...then bounce again. lol

It's just like "life is a cycle". :)

thank you for your words, Dhaye.

That's a long sit down Jacob. Perhaps you just need a spotter for the next trampoline?

"Trampoline feelings" - - How great is that!! :)
This title caught my attention, as I knew I'd be able to relate.
Being bounced once in a while makes us feel alive and gives us lots of inspiration for poetry. Eventually, we do recover. Right now, I'm in that recovered state and have no ability to write poetry. It's like I just can't do it any more.
I love your seasonal metaphors; you are a very talented poet.

sometimes being bounced does silence us for awhile, but eventually we will find it again.

When emotions run the show
We long for winter
The season of being in peace
and depth
Cherishing life within

thank you for your insightful words, my friend.

There are any number of wonderful, subtle touches here--the notion of fall/Fall, the close juxtaposition of "summer" and "hbernate", the concept of winter and all that means in the cycle of life and the seasons. Of course, all of that is just window dressing if the poem has nothing to say, which is clearly not the case here, thank you very much. Outstanding stuff.

you hit the nail! such a slipping away of all that spring, summer and fall ... that first blast as hibernation begins ... does knock one a good one ... makes sure we all go to sleep eh!? ;) enjoyed this one ... such fine language always jacob!

A scenery of hibernation before bouncing out with winter's end and yet maybe the metaphor here is enjoying the solitude, taking a break before dating again

love the image created here - being bounced from a relationship does leave us reeling, especially when the leaves have only just begun to gather beneath the trees, barely cushioning the blow... there are a good many winter's i wish i could have sat out...love this, Jacob
