the Lease Released 

bitterness rents an apartment

in the heart of things

when landlords of passion rage

and the cost of living in illusion

throws our emotions out into the street

we become beggars of exclusion

paupers lining the streets of emoting decay

frivolous refugees of transient hospitality

accepting small donations of a smile,

a slight touch

maybe one breathless kiss

here and there

yet the destitute truth is that

we will always be everywhere

but home...

You do sad beautifully, Jacob. This one is sad. It exudes sadness on every level. Moving out of an apartment can be symbolic for future hope and new adventures. However, in your poem, it is great imagery, symbolic of a failed past with hints of lost job, past due bills, and a bleak future. It could be talking about all those refugees desperately fleeing their for their lives, leaving their old apartments in the past, You can never go home again. Just sad. Thank you for sharing it, though. You are the master of poetic communication.
