aftertaste

aftertaste

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

aftertaste

even with several dashes of salt

over the shoulder of love,

the spice tempered,

the luck run out

violet template

passion's pages

wiped clean

a white out insistence

a strange distance

the silence shaken

over a meal of resistance

and now a bland stance

taken,

love's flavor

past the due date

of existence

no recompense

the endings all seem the same.

An aptly employed metaphor. Clever wordplay, great rhythm and a slick polish.

Sometimes love has been tainted and will never be good. Who knows what went on before the due date. Some people never even notice or look for them do they?

even spices have expiration and "sell-by" dates. you can use them after that date, but the taste will no longer tickle your tongue or excite your senses.

wonderful metaphor.

because i try to be the eternal optimist, i still believe that the last line is not always true....

when love's lost it's flavour no amount of spice or salt will make it palpable...why is it that so many relationships have best before dates?...a relatable and well-written piece, my friend
