aftertaste

aftertaste

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

aftertaste

even with several dashes of salt

over the shoulder of love,

the spice tempered,

the luck run out

violet template

passion's pages

wiped clean

a white out insistence

a strange distance

the silence shaken

over a meal of resistance

and now a bland stance

taken,

love's flavor

past the due date

of existence

no recompense

the endings all seem the same.

If we stop taking or tasting something I wonder if over time we loose the ability to taste or does the flavour wane.?

Once something is stale or freezer burnt seasoning don't really work. Time to go shopping, or hunting...see your metaphorical brilliance hasn't missed a beat :)

The problem with taste buds is that they build their own memories, and we can always know when something has expired or not..
sometimes the expiration was written in fine tiny letters.

You have a truly impeccable way with words. I hope to accomplish something of that measure one day. I love "past the due date of existence".

Wonderful piece! I love the last line "The endings all seem the same." I think it summed up the poem extremely well. Great job!

I can relate to those endings. In fact dogs seem to be my speed. I'm almost ready to bag another future meals like the one served here.

Can I offer you a brandy for that aftertaste Jacob?

Regards,
Al

'even with several dashes of salt

Love this.
Unfortunately despite our rituals and stubborn grip we are powerless at the best of times.
