Chilblains

Chilblains

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Chilblains

i'll settle for lies

if you just give me your hand

frostbitten by your cold eyes

my fingers will still curl 'round your heart

loving you is an art

and i, the sad painter

don't want to build a single fire

from sore embers

voices dancing harsh on tips of flames

calling each other detrimental names

we nearly ripped the swelling seams

and inverted decimated dreams

i'll settle for lies

and love that's pretend

as long as you promise

this won't be the end.

How sad that so many of us settle for less than we are entitled to.

Life is far too short to do that.

Well penned, my friend.

How often do people settle for nothing more than a facade simply because they are afraid of being alone? Too often if you ask me. I enjoyed the rhyme scheme in this, Jacob. Lydi**

The poet rhymes … you don't do that very often. You are a wordsmith of the highest quality, Jacob:)

love's poor circulation causes the hands to swell and blister beneath that cold stare, still, we are willing to love for less, a lot less than we are deserving of...sometimes it's the devil you know scenario...other times it's the only love you know...perhaps it's a case of not wanting to admit defeat until it is no longer possible to retain even the smallest fragment...such a moving write, my friend,,,

I love the lines "don't want to build a single fire from sore embers" and the sentiments therein. Beauty is in the loyalty in this write.

Jacob... Wow.
This is so good I can FEEL it.

The sad painter, even as it ends the memories perfectly captured.
Very moving.
