The Humpty-Dumpty Effect

The Humpty-Dumpty Effect

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

The Humpty-Dumpty Effect

rocks

      and rain

                 glistening intentions

                       stationary

                  looks and regrets

and tears left falling over the stone face

of a boy who now wonders why he didn't make the move then

.......every time he stands in a rain

and remembers slogging through hesitation

too slowly to catch her

as she was falling just out of his reach.

there is a dream-like quality in this piece...i can see the boy reaching as she slips over the wall...so much regret in those what-ifs...and tears fall in unison...this was my first year university English class...Treena sat across from me every day but before i could muster the courage to ask her out she had fallen, into the arms of another, and there were no horses or men to attempt putting the pieces back together... great write, my friend
