The Humpty-Dumpty Effect

The Humpty-Dumpty Effect

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

The Humpty-Dumpty Effect

rocks

      and rain

                 glistening intentions

                       stationary

                  looks and regrets

and tears left falling over the stone face

of a boy who now wonders why he didn't make the move then

.......every time he stands in a rain

and remembers slogging through hesitation

too slowly to catch her

as she was falling just out of his reach.

Know the effect well; and that a missed opportunity always remains in the memory. T

Love the title because it definitely lured me in. I believe I too have experienced the Humpty -Dumpty Effect lol, I've always been a hesitant sort. Keep up the magic Erin :-)

I use to kick myself from shyness, not making a move that was open to question a second to catch her at that moment offered then too late, the fear of rejection! I love this write J

It kind of had that fable tale feel as another one gets away.

i always find that poems or stories that resonate with "what ifs" are always so haunting to me, because i have such intimate experience with that feeling.....

really tugs at the heartstrings for me.

always bittersweet.

Intentions....the might have beens and should have beens of our lives....tend to haunt us. What if you had caught her? How would your life have been different? Unfortunately, no way to know for sure. He who hesitates is lost....too true. Lydi**

What man has not lived this moment, and then had to lived with the litany of shoulda beens and what ifs that rain upon us afterward? Elegantly expressed, and a shining example of how form can complement the words to elevate a piece's impact.

man i can relate ..i was the consummate shy guy and also terrified ;) not a good combination to catch the girl ... wonderful reading for me ..title adds to the tale in a circuitous route .. the stones, and rain and tears and stone face ... great stuff for me .. vivid and lots of my own feelings conjured ..nice one as always jacob!
