Overnight Stay

Overnight Stay

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Overnight Stay

blissful lodging

hotel heartthrob

shutters closed now

Vacancy sign blinking

like the cold eye of winter,

snowbound love puts out "do not disturb" sign

ice machine maturation, abandonment in the hallway

of echoed exuberance

register full of regret

opened to the page

of your signature,

and yesterday's luxury suite

we shared as one

today, there are too many rooms available

and i can't find you in any of them.

geez, you resurrected an oldie...thank you for the read and words, Jimmy.

Reminds me of a dorm room where I spent a winter day once...long, long ago...she was a college girl and I was a high school kid...it seemed a wild and bold adventure. Such are the high strung days of youth not very often visited from the comfort of my late middle age.

(today, there are too many rooms available and i can't find you in any of them.) Too much of this going on in this frenzied materialistic world....and too many who will relate all too well. Bravo on capturing the scene my friend. ~Sharon

thank you for your kind review....but i really liked "too many rooms"---

Ah, what an excellent analogy! It can also be read literally, and that way it's rather touching. Lovely poem.

thank you for your kind words, Roland.

'Love don't live here anymore'.
The funny thing is, even when it doesn't live there anymore it's a bit like Hotel California.
It never really leaves. Really like this one.

Lol. Yeah, that song and stairway to heaven. I can do without ever hearing them again.

Nothing else but the echoes of the relationship. The heartbreak hotel where things have passed and the present holds nothing but a ruinous memory.

thank you for your words, moonskittles...

When people grow apart emotionally it can be like living in to different hotel rooms.
Great analogy Jacob.

I love the way you create a theme and stick to it. There's an immense sadness in this for me. Those empty rooms and regretful register must have done it. The loneliness echoes down the halls and I can feel it. Excellent writing Jacob.
