angling for the elusive

angling for the elusive

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

angling for the elusive

thoughts still water

into coagulation,

the print fuses in my mind

like a pond at dusk

only a ripple or two of inspiration

produces the slightest swirl

and then is gone

before i can throw a line

onto the page.

dear Jacob, you caught me at the
end, after nibbling on your lure of
a whisper of a ripple at dusk. We
spend time under a shade tree where
families fish until the bewitching hour
where ripples and swirls kiss the waves
of canoes returning from secret inlet
coves of inspiration. I found your poem
to be a keeper. truly, Pat

"anling for the elusive"
jacob erin-cilberto,'
"thoughts still water" yes we might have an idea, a theme. But if "only a ripple of inspiration produces the slightest swirl." Oh, then a poem and complete line of thought. This was so good to see for I do identify with this struggle at times and sometimes it may come simply and purely.
Blessings,
Kathy

Jacob,
It's great to have the opportunity to identify and not feel to alone in this relating .. read more
wonderful use of metaphor all the way through....

this piece reminds me how easily "good" ideas and lines evaporate from my mind before i can put pen to paper. it's a lot like those concentric circles on the surface of water when a stone is tossed in....as the ripples of thought get further away from the source, they weaken considerably.

This has happened to me so many times....sometimes I want to carry a tape recorder to record the poetry that fills my mind when I am on my long runs....because alas....before I can throw a line onto the page....they are gone. Creatively written!

Clever clever use of double measures here.

So odd when the fish won't bite, huh? How ever is the hungry writer to keep fed?

Reminds me of a Leonard Bernstein quote~

"Inspiration is wonderful when it happens, but the writer must develop an approach for the rest of the time... The wait is simply too long."

Seems like you've done just that.

"then is gone before i can throw a line onto the page." Been there done that way too many times myself dear friend. Your beautifully mesmerizing metaphor shines once again! ~SP

great metaphor and word play here, Jacob...the slightest distraction can cause us to miss that big one...still, it appears you always manage to bag your limit...nicely-done

But you generally seem to catch your inspirations, Jacob, and you land them directly on the page.
