Dr. Dread

Dr. Dread

A Poem by Eric Cox

"Another cavity" told Dr. Dread
"Time to drill" he smiled and said
not yet another! I thought
I brush so much so why the rot?
he lay me nearly upside down in the chair
in his eyes shined an evil glare
he injected Novacane with an intrusive sting
"You'll feel just a little pinch" he seemed to sing
he left the room and came back in a bit
he picked up his drill, his eyes cheerfully lit
he fired it up and began swirling deep
a smile on his lips as pain began to seep
"Not enough Novacane?" he asked with a grin
he took out a syringe and injected more in
he left the room as I breathed a sigh
I thought: "There's something wrong with this guy
I'll definitely report him when my tooth is filled
and find a kind dentist trustworthy and skilled"
he came back in the room and resumed drilling
this was my twenty-third filling
when finished I told him my desire
for his position as my dentist to soon expire
a grim look of darkness swept upon his face
"I can't let you do that" he said dark as death as he maced
I held my burning eyes as he threw me to the chair
he strapped me to it and said "Welcome to your nightmare"
then he put a vice in my mouth and I heard his drill shrieking
it bored deep into my tooth and into the flesh, blood began seeping
then he said with a laugh "How about the un-numbed side?"
fear coursed through my veins as I struggled with nowhere to hide
"Now this won't hurt a bit" he jokingly said with an insane laugh
pain coursed through, the agony of torture as my tooth was cut in half
he kept smiling and laughing in glee as pain and blood flowed like a hellish stream
I felt biting flames of agony for a seeming eternity of useless screams
"Hush hush, it's okay now, my tooth drilling is now at an end" whispered Dr. Dread
relief flooded my wounded soul though my spirit through misery was bled
then he picked up a carpenter's drill with a twisted smile from ear to ear
"If you had not rejected me as your dentist all this torment you'd never feel sear"
"Now it's time to say goodbye" he said cold as death as he made a mocking sign of the cross
his drill bored through the flesh of my mouth swirling into my brain all hope now at a loss
the last sight I saw was a madman's eyes as my body bled into dust
now a comforting thought: What dentist can you truly trust?

This is pure horror that could come true when we're helplessly strapped in a dentist chair with all kinds of unknown things put into our mouths so we cant' even scream once the nightmare starts. Your horror is very riveting. This makes me glad don't have to go to the dentist until sometime in the far future. Oh yes, I do love this too!

Love the Alice Cooper blend this has, something that feels like Metal more so than poetry. Love the description and the description implied.

Apparently highest suicide rate amongst dentists. Go figure!

What a powerfully profound darkness you've painted here. Reminded me of a news story the other day where a man went to see his ex (a dentist) about a toothache. She drugged him and pulled all his teeth! Think you've expressed that rage quite well.

Dentist are scary. Take all your money and then give you great pain. I enjoyed this story. There is a reason a lot of scary movies about Dentist going mad and killing folks. Thank you for the outstanding poem.

My husbands dentist won't give him pain meds.He said it makes a man stronger to overcome pain.Sick b*****d.I go to a woman dentist.I get a script for valium before I go and vicadin when I leave.I don't know what she does in my mouth but I don't feel a thing.
The poem is a true horror about the scariest person with a degree. The dentist is evil.

Boy, this one sure is creepy with a capital C. Everyone's fear at one point of other of dentists and what they can do while they got is strapped in the chair with our feet in the air and all sorts of gadgets in our mouths.

Incredible horror in this very well written poem. You never know when a dentist might lose it while working on you.
