Forest Camping HaikusA Poem by Eric CoxHaikus written while camping in a campground in the Mt. Hood National Forest.down long tree lined roads we head for a forest camp a vacation breeze tall grand trees surround peacefulness soothes the senses nature's beauty sings the warm flames flicker a hypnotic, soothing blaze bursts of orange dance walking a lost road where trees have fallen and grown a clear path years past Bigfoot looms ahead steel arms and fangs sharp and cold Tina's spooky fear a cool summer breeze the wind sings a soft stream song soothing to the soul the coals of fire glow as light fades and trees turn black friends and marshmallows in star painted skies satellites aglow race by we gaze in wonder the moon looms above appearing like a pale ghost casts a frost white path tall pine trees surround ground carpeted by dead trees our tee pee still stands we hike through the woods she and I explore the wild a grand adventure ravens in tree tops their call echoes through the woods forever haunting meat roasted by flames fire and smoke deeply season a delight to taste at dusk's outhouse door a shadow slipping beneath a frog cloaked by night traveling about remembered scenes of days past when youth and health shined forests and meadows deep and vibrant shades of green the sky painted blue our grand volcano Mt. Hood looms silent for years majestic beauty waking to nature sundrops shine upon the trees silent beauty reigns the woods I will miss a forest breeze brings sunshine let this wind return
