Put Up A Fence

Put Up A Fence

A Poem by Eric Cox

When you're forgotten by someone
much hurt can come
when they disappear
we can long for them near
when this friendship is through
it can taint our hearts blue
but we get used to their absence
that they put up a fence.

I'd like to see you again as my friend
the ghost you've become never seems to end
where is the kind soul that I once knew
why keep this fence between me and you
memories of good times with you can haunt
the knowledge that you are gone can taunt
I am used to your absence, the pain is less dense
but it lingers on with no relent, please tear down the fence!

THis has happened to me very recently, though I don't know if I put up the fence or just made it taller.

This is beautiful. It's so easy to put up a fence. Sometimes I wonder whether the people with fences regret putting them up. After it's kind of like a wall, hard to break down.

A beautiful poem, and it actually rhymed!!!

Easy to create a fence. Hard to take down. I like the desire of this poem. Good people are missed when walls of separations are create. Thank you for the outstanding poem.

We lose so many people as we move forward in our lives. Most just because we let them go and they let us go. Nice job on this write.

Very sad but so very true. Like so many things along lifes path they just become a memory. We need to be thankful for the memories but we still wonder why?

Kinda heartbreaking but that is usually what happens. We outgrow our friends quite often as we move from one stage of life to another and have fond memories of those we left behind. This is awesome!

The pain of remembering friends no longer in one's life and wondering why? What choices were made that leads two friends apart? Nice job on this.

This is rather sad but a true write about what people often do over time. When the fences start going up friendships fade away into memories. An amazing write!
