Phantasm

Phantasm

A Poem by Eric Cox
"

This is about the movie "Phantasm".

"

Phantasm, where the Tall Man is host to undeath

creating phantoms void of human breath

hooded dwarf creatures which haunt and kill

slaves to the Tall Man, they follow his black will

At funerals when the mourners have all gone

into his hearse the Tall Man puts his pawns

he picks up each coffin alone with ease

new phantoms will dawn in a cemetery breeze

Tommy found this fate after the Tall Man knifed

in the form of a woman in the graveyard he sliced

Mike saw the Tall Man put his coffin back in the hearse

he explored the mortuary where the dead are cursed

their souls never to go to Heaven, they go to the Tall Man

he enslaves them and transforms their bodies, they are damned

Each coffin in the mortuary has no body within

they are now phantoms with futures dark as sin

most go to a red planet through a portal door

where they work as slaves forevermore

The Tall Man creates silver spheres which fly, slice in and drill

one screamed toward Mike in the mortuary to blackly kill

it missed Mike and stuck into the head of the Tall Man's worker

then it drilled inside and blood gushed out like a crimson red river

Mike drew his knife and fled as the Tall Man ominously drew near

Mike made it through a door and locked it tight silencing the death fear

the Tall Man's hand was wedged in the steel door, Mike slashed off his fingers

they lay moving in yellow blood, he took one that later morphed into a bug like horror

the Tall Man is immortal, no one can send him to a grave

a sinister presence blooming nightmares, a road of death he paves

“Do not fear” the girl told Mike, how can they not fear the touch of death

among cemetery shadows they try not to be murdered of human breath

Mike dreamed of the Tall Man standing over his bed in a grave plot

dead bodies reached out and dragged him down into death, decay and rot

Mike and Jody and Reggie were the main good characters within

pursued by the Tall Man after discovering secrets so grim

Down a road in Jody's Hemi Cuda a driverless hearse chased

Jody took it out with shotgun blasts and discovered Tommy drove defaced

he was a phantom and he later returned to life within death's shadows

in one scene the Tall Man walked with ominous strides and echoes

the Tall Man speaks with a black chill to his voice dead to the light in the sky

he gripped Mike and said:“You play a good game boy, but the game is over, now you die”

he locked Mike in the back of his hearse but Mike escaped his end

he and Jody trapped the Tall Man in a well to silence his death wind

“It was all just a dream, and Jody died in a car crash” Reggie told Mike

then in his bedroom the Tall Man appears and bellows “Boy!” then phantoms strike

they crash through his mirror and drag him through and the film comes to a close

then three more movies of Phantasm come and cool horror flows

Mike and Reggie fight to stop the Tall Man but never succeed

from the web of death the Tall Man weaves their world will never be freed.

Egh ugh! The Tall Man! I loved that movie series but I've never quite recovered from the horror of watching them. You did a superb job on capturing the movie in your poem.

You sure got the movie down right. I've recently watched the series on DVD and its rather frightening. That Phantasm 'guy' never let up and eventually got what he wanted. You just could not kill it. Awesome poem!

Thank you for the story and the very good description. Phantasm is one of the most interesting characters. I need to research some old movies because of your reminder. I appreciate the poem.
