Death Nevermore

Death Nevermore

A Poem by Eric Cox

Deep in my heart, within my soul
a course I chart, as death bells toll
the shimmer of light! I can see from afar
its soothing delight, shines like a star
I feel it not, it seems out of grasp
in the depths of rot, I cannot clasp
and yet I seek what shines far ahead
though whispers of doom cannot be shed.
Then a shining thought enters my mind!
this haunting sorrow can be left behind!
thoughts of triumph shine! oh they shine!
I can reach the light so divine!
the hand of death I shall decline.
I feel the darkness within part from my soul
I no longer feel a rotting black hole
now a bright light shines from within
the haunting of death will nevermore darken.
