America: Wither Not

America: Wither Not

A Poem by Eric Cox

America: never spiral down to the death
of the enchanting beauty of freedom's breath
let the media not sweep news from our eyes
traitors to the country cloaking with disguise
don't let the corrupt blossom a dark breeze
lies deceiving the crowds with a bitter freeze
the constitution is withering on the vine
let its slow decay turn around and then shine
let the truth unveil to illuminate all wrongs
let injustice never bloom to darken our song
let greed cease its grasp of the heart of health care
let invasion of privacy not ensnare
America: never let blossom the death
of the enchanting beauty of freedom's breath

"the Constitution is withering on the vine..." -Scary imagery; if that truly happens it will be the death knell for our country.

The thing I enjoyed most about this piece was the optimism in the subtext. You're not just pointing out s**t that's wrong with the government (and yes, I take this as a political piece) and slamming down the accusatory ace card--like a lot of angry dissident poets do--without backing it up with some real concern, and some real insight. Seriously good piece here, and I thank you for sharing it with us.

Thank you
Those of us who love freedom and liberty and not Socialism and Communism must keep the faith alive. A good poem for a rallying cry.

a wonderful and powerful poem and I truly enjoyed it. I believe every word you wrote here, we must keep American, the United States Of America from being destroyed and turned into something not so nice.
