A Poem by Erica Wilkinson

She is no animal
Yet fur costumes her torso
And mushes her hair to neck length.

What is so lovable about this so normal girl?
Whose mind is conventional
But wise in a way that could sicken.

These ostrich legs
Pound along with a friend
Who lives purely off cigarettes and oxygen.

If she knew the hurt,
Would she desist
And fly away from the light bulb?

Or would it thrust her further
Into the arms
Of the end ...

Due to the dark context, I feel like I shouldn't be saying I like this, but I do. It's brutally honest, and really very good!
