PrologueA Chapter by erica726Nora, Andy, and Blake were born to parents who have a dangerous past. The police have been searching for them for decades but they've never found them. Until one morning when everything changes....
Prologue Will and Patty had 3 beautiful children, but they couldn’t seem to get rid of their past. Both of them were drug dealers and on the F.B.I.’s most wanted. For as long as they remember, they’ve been running from the law. Moving from town to town, had been very hard on their children but they knew having parents in jail, were even worse. In the past 5 years, they’ve been in 10 different states. Currently, they live in California, but they knew they were going to have to move again very soon. Their oldest daughter, Nora, was very curious but Will and Patty can’t tell her. Even though she was 14, they cannot involve her in their past. Nora was sitting on the couch when she heard police sirens outside the house. Worried, she turned to her parents who froze in fear. Will said to Nora, “Nora, you’re going to have to be a big and brave girl for me Do you think you can do that?” Full of fear, Nora nodded her head and heard yelling coming from outside. A policeman yelled, “Open up, it’s the police. Do not try to escape since we have the house surrounded.” Beads of sweat were dripping from Will’s face, but he knew it was only a matter of time before the police found him and Patty. He just wished that Nora, Andy, and Blake didn’t have to be involved. Before Nora opened the door, Will said, “Nora, I love you, but I don’t know when I’m going to see you again.” He took Patty’s hand and said, “Sweetheart, we’ve been through it all, and I hope you know that I love you.” Patty grabbed his face and kissed him passionately. The police managed to break down the door and said, “Everyone get on your knees and put your hands on your head.” Nora saw her parents get down on their knees and mimicked their actions. She saw 2 big policemen drag them out of the house in handcuffs and tears started to stream down her face. A female police officer said, “Sweetheart, what’s your name?” Through the tears, Nora managed to say, “My name is Nora, and my two little brothers are upstairs in their room.” As soon as she said that, she saw two small figures emerge from the stairs. Blake, who was 5, said, “Nora, where are mommy and daddy?” Andy, who was 9, added “Why were there so many police sirens outside?” The police officer stood up and said, “Kids, I need you to come with me. I need you to go and pack a suit case with some of your stuff.” Before Nora went upstairs, the officer said, “Is there anybody I can call that can look after you guys.” Nora shook her head because their only family was their parents. Andy, Blake, and Nora sat, full of fear, in the back of the police car while the officer talked to a strange person. The officer, whose name was still unknown, motioned for them to get out of the car. As soon as they were out, the officer said, “Andy, Blake, and Nora this is Lisa and she’ll be taking care of you guys in this group home.” The officer started walking away but Andy said, “When will we get to see our parents again?” The officer said, with a sad expression on her face, “Andy, I truly have no idea. Your parents are some of the most serious criminals we’ve ever caught, so I have no idea when and if you’ll see them again.” Andy looked at his feet and said, “Can you please just show us where we’ll be staying. I think were all very tired and need some rest.” They all followed Lisa to a room and she said, “Blake and Andy, you’ll be sharing a room which is right through this door.” Andy hesitantly went in and Blake followed while Nora followed Lisa to her room. Lisa said, “Nora, you’ll be sharing a room with a nice girl, Ellie. You too will get along great!” Nora stood alone and afraid outside of this room. This morning, she was in her house with her parents and her little brothers but now she doesn’t know when she’ll see her parents again. A surge of panic and fear came over Nora, but she ignored the sudden urge to cry and went into the room. Before she could meet her room mate, she heard her name being yelled for. Blake yelled, with fear in his voice, “Nora, some big kid is hitting Andy; Andy’s bleeding very badly.” Nora just wanted to scream! Why was she suddenly expected to take care of everything? She gently pushed Blake aside and sprinted to go find Andy. She saw a muscular guy, covered in tattoos, beating her little brother until he could barely breathe. Flustered with anger, she yelled, “WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING?” Tattoo boy let a smirk slide across his face and he released Andy. Before Nora could say anymore, tattoo boy disappeared. With a look of concern on her face, Nora said, “Andy, you’re nose is gushing blood. We’ve been here no even an hour and you’ve already made enemies.” Andy pushed Nora aside and said, “Leave me alone Nora, I’m fine.” Anger raced through Nora’s veins but she held it in. All Nora needed and wanted to do was protect her brothers. She knew that their parents would no longer be a part of their life. Of course she was filled with sadness, but she knew she had to be strong for Andy and Blake. © 2011 erica726Author's Note
