featherA Poem by Erica Corbitta poem celebrating the freedom of a Rom lifestyle.Tattoo a feather on my back because like a bird I don’t leave any tracks. I’ll fly high; and passing by I will laugh at my earthbound fellows. I want to live as a gypsy and call the world my home. Travel in a caravan with everything I own. Trick foolish gaje and enchant with a glance. I want to live as a gypsy. I want to breathe as much as I dance. Lashav. Your shame is my honor. They are both the same. You disparage my freedom; I am disgusted by your cage. A bird stays with me of its own free will. It can leave when it wants to- I wish it well. I love this friend who is wild and free. I am happy that she has spent time with me. I will not mourn her when she moves on. I do the same. Life carries on. So tattoo a feather on my back. Remember this moment because it’s all you’ll have. Memories, that is, the shadow to your light, dancing around a campfire on a wild summer night. © 2010 Erica CorbittAuthor's Note
