The Nocturnal BoyA Poem by Eren ToreyA spooky poem, inspired by the dark places in my house!I dreamt of a nocturnal boy Who would always forget his toys On the opposite end Of the house where he'd spend All his time, making no noise He possessed a lethargic spirit And the dark, he'd always be near it Never turning on a light To stave away the fright Why would he? He simply didn't fear it His eyes had long since adjusted So his knee wouldn't end up busted Though he wouldn't get hurt Or slip and tear his shirt He would soon learn the dark can't be trusted One night, he began his routine Upon waking, drank some caffeine He was still unaware Of the beady white pair Of eyes that stared at him, unseen The boy crept through the house He stops for a moment, then pouts He was sure he had heard A noise, quite certainly Behind him, he had no doubts He quickly gathered up his things And started away with a spring He felt a large hand That he could barely withstand Rest on his shoulder, he screamed The tall figure that stood behind him Was a mass dark enough to blind him With twisted, gnarled skin And eyes more akin To headlights, bright white pins This thing was darkness manifest The boy's fear coalesced But then he would find He heard in his mind A voice, saying "do not be pressed" "I have simply been misunderstood I reside in this neighborhood Waiting for one To not be stunned By my appearance, for perhaps I am good" The boy snapped out of his trance His mind began to advance He hugged the big creature Thought to be a teacher, saying "I'll give the dark another chance" They never did see him again He disappeared with his new friend Becoming one with the shadow Forever haunting the chateau Of the beginning of the end © 2021 Eren Torey |
