An AfterthoughtA Poem by e.renoldiblurred lines of reality and dreamsAn Afterthought Waves
bounding pounding splashing crashing
“THROW IT OVER” They are coming. Vibrant swirls of whirls of fear
invade my mind blue green yellow rock, rock, rock I
lift another wooden crate overboard an
umbrella protection
from the water the
enemy. How did I get here? The boat of course
Leg after leg. I’m not sure. But we run. Apples
Grapes loaded
before us rations
for our escape protection
from death the
enemy. “BOARD” Da dun Da
dun My ears are overflowing with the
waters of fear I am drowning in life- boats I remember life but this is real life island
Heart
pounded,
darting eyes as the puppy (----) bounded
after me, fur flailing.
Barely
breathing- fwoo
fwoo- the
nets the nets were too close like
a shroud of darkness ------ it
has caught. it has caught me. it’s
over. it’s- ……. ----- I lift one eyelid, what
feels like a thousand tons and
the net is flailing
like the dog. My
fingers delicately lift the net, and
I wonder my heart
stops as
I lift
lift
lift! It flew off my shoulder! Into
the enemy- who was the enemy?
Me? The other me?
No. Yorkshire terrier (terror) bounding
with smile shredding
my fear. Thump
thump for the slide- I am jolted awake. Feeling my chest for my heart But
I was on the boat. Thump thump thump Dogs
are dogs and
fruits and umbrellas and slides They weren’t real but fear brings life and I am real I am afraid of the life fear brings because I am alive But
I was on the boat Thump
thump thump
