The Woe of RainbowsA Poem by e.renoldiBased on the song, "Rainbow Connection" Ty KermitThe Woe of Rainbows
what worries me is how much i love a good mirage. but most days i settle for bad ones. what fools we must be. we scour the earth for treasure. the deep the sky. we look under microscopes, in laundry baskets and shadows. but why are there so many songs about rainbows? they are beautiful, truly they are beautiful. visions and illusions even here, we search. we add pots of gold at the end to make it worth our trouble- a pot of ________ because everyone wishes on stars while shutting their eyes. what have we wished? we wonder about rainbows look for connections we are stargazed and starcrossed- we see. but look what it's done.
but what do we see? do we intersect with what is real? or are we half asleep? do we attempt sparks with our hearts? with our lenses blurred?
to the left and to the right i've heard whispers. He knows my name.
we believe that we see. what we see are visions of illusions versions that fade behind filters of shame & decay all are under a spell.
a fool fol-der-ol and fid-dle-dy dees for a rainbow. what makes the fool a man? a man a fool? not looking for a pot of _____. knowing treasure is no longer there. a fool. if love is a fool, then i am a fool. for i know of treasure not buried below but seated above. it is not a rainbow filling the crevices of our mind with the holes in our eyes.
someday all will find their visions of illusions will fade and their treasure swept away.
that shadows cannot thrive in darkness, microscopes are but blurred without sight the laundry’s filth a stain within.
I am the connection. why do you sleep? lovers and dreamers- awaken!
a sweet song heard too many times to ignore. © 2017 e.renoldi |
