Reconciliation

Reconciliation

A Poem by e.renoldi

A regression back to a childhood game,
for nine months silence was my weapon,
the more I thought I won- I lost,
the more relief I felt- guilt I held.

No more was this a childhood game,
but a game of guessing-
a game of pain.

I saw her that day,
that girl I knew-
but I really saw her.

We talked that day,
she broke my weapon in two,
we laughed, we cried, we forgave.

When we hugged I knew for sure,
this was the girl I knew.
The little girl who I cried with,
l laughed with, played with.

This was the girl I had opened my imagination with-
discovering lost kingdoms and buried treasure.

She was there!
I saw her!
- a split second,
greeting me like an old friend
with no games, just a smile.

But she left, she's gone.

A monster in human form, she's here.
But that girl, she's gone.

I saw an old friend the other day.
Happy and confused.
I know that was my last glimpse-
I know I'll never see her again.
