Limerence III

Limerence III

A Poem by eraul

Very early on Friday morning,
A faint ringtone told me that you had come home;
I was finally able to sleep.
I may have even smiled.

So many days had passed,
And I had been so well-behaved.
I resisted temptation all that time
To make any stir
That might solicit reciprocation,
Or worse yet,
Silence.

If you believe that I simply disappear when you go away,
You are correct.
In your presence,
I am definable.
I assume a comfortable form that recognizes you,
So unlike the one in your absence;
I hate that one -
A shapeless, shadowy drunken hulk hovering over your electronic life,
Observing it all - hypothesizing - writing a dark and sordid story from pieces
Of comments, likes, followings, shares, snap scores.
I remain out of control
Until through my insatiable recklessness,
You have been completely reassembled - an irresistible stranger-
Less obtainable than ever
And even more desirable.
