Chirography

Chirography

A Poem by Eric Pudalov
"

The story (in poetic form) of my first tattoo.

"
Lying upon the black chair,
Skin exposed to the artist,
I make myself a canvas
Upon which he will create.

The painting is carried upon
My shoulder,
A quill pen crossed with
Sewing needle and thread,
To tell the story of two lovers:
The minstrel poet
And the seamstress...

As he begins the etching,
The artist seems to cauterize
My bare back, with deft
Needle strokes.

I envision the pen, as if
A stabbing knife were
Scrawling chirography
In blood,
An ancient rite
Of passage,
Pain that must be endured.

The message I wish to
Display, expressed
In seared
Pencraft,
Says to all:

"I am a writer;
I am in love."

An adumbrated poem,
There in flesh,
Made into an emblem
To remain,
Usque ad mortem (Until death).

Wowcha, dude - sounds extremely painful and just put me off getting a tattoo, not that I was going to get one. Frieda would kill me, me thinks. This was nice though, I loved it.

Ouch, sounds agonizing, the things we do for love and poetry is crazy sometimes. You old romantic you, painful, albeit good read. ;-)
