Krog St. Tunnel

Krog St. Tunnel

A Poem by Eric Pudalov
"

The Krog St. Tunnel is an Atlanta landmark.

"
read the tonguing voices
and estranged eye hooks
mesmerizing
murderous Morse
code on cinder block walls

mouths never open, always
breathing, yet
incarcerated in the
floodlights of the nightshade
stalking you

those who wrote
letters and numbers
not of Cyrillic origin
NOM-un-8-ed
you

their ghostless skulls
appear and
vanish in concrete smoke
this urbanspace is
the first frontier

are you a Krog-er?
do you have the smARTS
to decipher the
eye-sle of warbling calls

or the street names
wroken into bricks
like Braille
backwards and
forwards, untranslated
but
there for your transcription
the encryption is not
ill-edge-able

and am I one
who passes through,
pin-ticking
sound-senations
of these nocturnal doorways
unlistening?

these are tablets
stone ink
light and
brush
hammer and
chisel
a part of
the city.
