ALGORITHM: ELEGY FOR A FRACTURED EARTH

ALGORITHM: ELEGY FOR A FRACTURED EARTH

A Poem by E.P. Robles
"

I know some hate when the poet states the meaning of a poem they have written. But here is a small piece of my mind into this poem: The poem speaks directly to the anxieties of the 21st century.

"
ON a certain (night let’s say)
when clueless(travelers)swipe past our
economic despairs"code
whispers (like a meadow’s hum:servers
singing electric) & simulations shuffle
queens/kings across pixel-skinned tables
influencers veil streaming fabricated harmony;
neon gradients spill sunsets pixelated
tweets rage & trendstorms howl.
he flinches(yes)comedy drips onto
the viral-stage / and
meanwhile the marginalized sink
glossy(ly glossily)distractions above them.
in his tired(vision fractured)
corporate moonshots(flying from valleys
of silicon); deserts (now bloom fleets)
while shadows simmer(oh revolutions)
at empire-cores: beneath concrete
(chairs of throne ergonomic)
the flattened(earth"fading)"compressed
into hashtags; cables West to Africa’s
tired o(cean)s.
a ballet then: memes recycled nights sleepless
synthetics/chemical songs //algorithms pulse
digital(illusions wherever
jetlag lands your soul): even
the simplest(scientist)knows
the suffocating fog: eco(guilt)-carbon(remorse)
cannot (hold)"no; the storms (they uncoil)
wildfires rage glaciers (crumbling) tectonic
fury(a symphony of planet’s)roil"
extinction’s fist(knoCK knoCKS)"
myths forgotten(sciEnce unheeded)
a red flash countdown(what remains)
for any still daring (to) look.

Author's Note

E.P. Robles
My poem critiques not just environmental degradation but also the societal tendency to prioritize digital convenience and superficial connectivity over meaningful action. I mention "memes recycled nights sleepless" encapsulates the cyclical, often hollow nature of online activism, where issues are fleetingly acknowledged but rarely resolved.
