The Dream Catcher

The Dream Catcher

A Poem by EMP

I created a web of cotton and string,

And hung it up on my window sill.

I stuck little beads and nice little bows,

And made sure that all of it's prettiness showed.

That very same night, I lay on my bed,

Thinking of rainbows and my little ted.

But something disturbed me, so black and big,

i leapt out of my bed, ran and hid.

My mummy came up to see what was wrong,

Stepped in the room and turned the light on.

It turned out it was just a trick of the light,

But I knew I'd be having nightmares that night.

I lay down again, shaking and cold,

Scared of what my dreams would hold.

But as I dozed off, I felt very calm,

My web of dreams was next to my palm.

So from that moment on, I'd sleep like my ted,

Nice and warm in my cosy bed.

And when I'd be scared and trouble was near,

My dream catcher was there to battle my fears.

This is very nice. It captures innocence, but the subject isn't naive. She knows bad dreams exist, but still she has purity. I think you did a wonderful job with the rhyming and rhythem. This poem was very enjoyable to read, and I look forward to more! Please keep up the good work. No matter what, never stop writing.

What a terrific poem, Beth. Really, you've done an outstanding job--the rhyming is excellent and the story is flawless. My youngest son slept with a dream catcher over his bed for years.

It's a really lovely poem, as said below it captures innocence. I was reading it in a kind of flow and there was two lines which didn't carry on that flow though, "I lay down again, shaking and cold, Scared of what my dreams would hold."

I don't know, maybe I'm in the wrong but either way, well done, really lovely poem. Keep it up.
