![]() My Ticket to Heaven DreamA Story by Ryan LuseMy Ticket To Heaven Dream
I love to dream but once in a while you'll have a dream that's more like an event. A cinematic adventure of the senses that blurs the lines between reality, time and consciousness. This was one of those whacked out dreams for me...
The dream revolves around a simple and ridiculous premise: The world is coming to an end in hours and the only way to get to the afterlife is if you have a special golden ticket.
The dream as I remember begins with me in line to get my ticket to heaven, it's like one of those DMV lines but times a thousand- everyone's soul has a peculiar look and smell to them. It's something I find on myself as well but there are no words to describe what that is on paper. Ahead of me in this line is the girl I am crazy about, however in this dream her hair is different and she is a bit more narcissistic. She gets her ticket and I tell her I will meet her soon to say enter the next world (hopefully together.)
I am one of the last people to get one of these golden tickets and since my credit is a bit messed up and for all past transgressions in college and whatever I have to pawn off all my money, guitar, and car to persuade the demon faced ticket lady just to get mine. Outside its pure f*****g chaos: fire, riots and people crying and scattering. The sky above is a red and angry and plays music… yes music. The music is a noise I've never heard, a kind of symphony of classic rock guitars and wind chimes whistling madly. It's scary and beautiful at the same time.
My mission is simple: to get near the people I love- like my family, close friends and the girl who will go nameless in the blog entry. Without a car, I take a winding detour through a multicolored forest and meet up with some of my friends I haven't seen since college who are also trying to find there way home to. We end up hanging out in the woods though, drinking beers by a bonfire and reminiscing of a world that will end very soon. As I am trying to find a guitar pic I notice I don't have my ticket either. I look everywhere but realized I must have dropped it, and it's gone for good. I tell my friends I am going to be left behind and need to find my family and the girl I love before they are taken to the next world without me. The sky above is getting louder with its windchime classic rock music. I start running in a panic.
I end up hitchhiking in a giant circus like caravan driven by scantily clad woman who ironically all have their tickets and gaze at me in bewilderment in a coy sort of pity that I actually lost mine. They remember partying at my parents place once and since it's a dream, they get me there in no time.
The dogs I adore have already gone to the next world my Mom tells me, hugging my Dad and sister with a look of exhilaration and melancholy. I try to think of the best way to tell them I won't be joining them in happily ever heaven land. The girl I care about is there to, napping in my parent's guestroom.
The rest of the dream was sort of hazy, but I don't think all turned out for me because I awoke with a pounding sense of fear in my heart and waves of "it was just a dream dude" washed over me for hours…. So yeah I am done writing about this dream. For now that is.
