Flood Heart

Flood Heart

A Poem by Gem Marie

Take me back to the night when my heart grew weak
Standing on the ice cold street
Our eyes fixed
watching nervously this frenzy a sudden urgency to hold me
The magnets beneath our skin began to pull us closer to a place I've never been
before
Two autos weaving in and out
Dizzy losing control
in a vacant parking lot leaving trails of
fish tails imprinting on the white of snow that is delicately crashing from above
because it has no where else to go
Unrehearsed, our desires are mapped out with the paints of the universe
My heart has set my chest on fire as a survival instinct
and it seems i have you to thank
It all began deep in December a warm ember
carved in the center of my heart
and it continued to burn like needles that break skin apart
resembling tattoo art
I've held in a million cries
The salt runs down, dries, blood stream river denies
a part of my entity I need so all I do is bleed
and I dont want to proceed or precede
whatever the words may be because none of them make sense any more
and thats something that will get hard to ignore
because these words constitute my entire reason for being
and im not sure if these people are seeing
the seriousness in how i can't decipher which one cuts more
my life or this double edged knife
and im still trying to understand this lack of harmony or so called strife
people get cut, thats life
6 in the morning and my memory hard drive needs to take five
These sheets we toss are crisp like the air that traces my sound
as i mouth three words that you seem to revolve around
And these days they shine but its nothing compared to you
The ocean hasnt seemed so blue
where im standing
These waves if they crash on me they crash on you
I've never been here before
Your something so beautiful
If we are keeping score, these comatose kisses
You've got me for sure
And light doesnt stay the same
It could be everything and nothing
And its something I became
Red high aurora blue low nox
You are the chip cold cube in my whiskey on the rocks
You always said i would know where to find you
You always said i would know what this means
I need to know if this is out of your routine
So tell me if this is what you mean
