Genesis

A Poem by Gem Marie

Overwhelmed with the world, fed up with humanity

It seems like we will never stop devouring

Devouring this beautiful landscape like it’s nothing we can’t reshape

The words roll of your tongue, got yourself sprung off the ones that sound loud

This all seems so profound

But its something you can’t embrace, this heart race will never end and I can’t pretend
Cause you're everything and nothing and it’s splitting my head, it leaks like a sieve

So I guess you’re right it’s not like we need this earth to live.

When the foundation is made up of guessing games, lighter flames, and still frames that isn’t all the same

It’s tough to build on something

The sun is sinking, chlorinated reflection, something to soak up

Damp bathing suits, 12 stacked red solo cups on the edge of a table

We were more than able

Change in the till, clean up the spill from cheap tricks and thrills

Still, swishes on the basketball court will never measure up to the wishes

I was forced to abort

Cause your smile wasn’t all that had fallen short

Labeling truths as lies because no good thing ever dies

Lines that are drawn are meant to advise

We failed to let our hearts cross with our smarts; it’s called an adrenaline rush for a reason

She’s with her other half because he said he be leavin

So now she’s just stuck waiting for somethin sturdy to believe in

Learned so fast they don’t clear up lies so I guess it’s up to us to clean up ties

Now my poisoned mind needs to be redesigned before I start to fall behind

Fused no I’m not conning you, I’m way more than this feeling of CON…FUSED.

Bruised, deeper than the blood in my veins that needs to be transfused

Police radios worry my ears; impatient sirens sing me to sleep to only relive the tears

I had shed when I first heard about the feared unsaid that made me stop dead

I dread, golden beams, lucid dreams that make me midnight scream

Flashbacks make me feel, make me see, you lying next to me

It’s like your presence is infrared
What do I do when the catalyst was once lying in my bed?
