Go gentle into that goodnightA Poem by EntrelesnuagesSpoken Word
They call you in to tuck them in
"just, one more time" To stretch out the hours beneath the covers until their eyelids grow too heavy to stay open any longer And as you look at their sweet faces somewhere, in that hazy space between awake and asleep you pray Go gentle into that goodnight, sweet child there are lots of fires in this world there are lots of wolves in the woods Please god, let them go gently into that goodnight may they find peace in the dying light if only for one more night let them hold onto that sliver of innocence in between their eyelashes just before they drift off to sleep Cause It won't be long til you have to fight my child Won't be long til it's all gone You'll see the wolves but you can't make the stop You'll light the fires with a cigarette you carelessly dropped So just tonight, just for me Go gentle into that goodnight This world is filled with nightmares but your eyelids are sewn shut pinch yourself, cut yourself you're never wakin' up So find peace in your dreams find peace in the end of your nightmares find peace in crawling into bed between mother and father and knowing the wolves won't find you Go gently into that goodnight, my darling Let me save you from the shadows while I still can Because I have lost the dreams and now all I have left is you
