Regrets

Regrets

A Poem by Enthusiast

suddenly one day my youth was over

"have any regrets?" Life quizzes, smirks
"I do indeed," I answer with barely a breath

I regret not having been more outrageous
more propelled by the courage of youth

I long for those daring adventures I barely dreamt
when I chose to remain on the straight and narrow

I miss not surrendering to love and to lust
when with pride I was handicapped by reason

I grieve having taken my health for granted
now that I am old and wilting away

I weep at the price of this more wizened perspective
but I don't regret not having had regrets before
