Ignorance is bliss

is how he must have rationalized

his lies and his deceit:

if she does not know

she won't become upset ...at me

for leading a double life

for oh so many years

it's better she does not know

that I lost all the money

we worked for so hard

and saved for our future

nothing I can do about it now

so I better keep lying

about my double life

with this special someone else

I'll get a few more credit cards

get another mortgage on the house

no need for her to worry

that would just make my situation worse

I'll keep her uniformed as long as I can

no need to show respect

she trusts me after all

why in the world would I change that?

she'll never guess that I lie

my wife of many years

as long as I look her in the eye and not flinch

and kiss her good night every day

her ignorance is my bliss

better keep it that way
