Pomegranates

Pomegranates

A Poem by Aubrey
"

A poem about love and heartbreak, then love again.

"

I fell for him.

 I trusted him.

 I gave him my pomegranate

 for him to consume.

 He destroyed it.

 He ripped it open,

 violently taking the seeds.

 Spreading the juice everywhere.

He looked as if I could frame him for murder.

All he wanted were my seeds.

 I left him,

 taking my pomegranate with me.

 I let it grow again,

I let her heal and strengthen.

 Then, I met her.

 She was so sweet.

She helped me heal my pomegranate.

until there were nothing but scars left.

I fell in love with her.

I gave her my pomegranate,

fearful she'd destroy my fruit just as he did before.

Yet, as I gave it to her,

she looked at it in awe,

carefully taking it from my hands.

She slowly cut open my pomegranate,

 careful to not hurt anything.

 She scooped the seeds,

Slowly,

 Gently.

 She ate them,

 one by one,

 savoring the taste.

 When she finished,

 She gave me her pomegranate.

There is an easy measuring rod for love. It's called sacrifice. The greater the love, the greater the sacrifice. There is no love without giving. But love is hard work, responsibility, accountability and sacrifice; not the sort of thing any sane person would want to "fall in". But fools get fooled by their expectations. Some of them think it's Cupid, lace and flowers and candy in a heart-shaped box to be served one day a year in mid-February. I enjoyed the read.

Human men are pretty gross on the regular. Not half but, slightly less than half of men are pretty disgusting if you let them talk freely (you have to be pretty gross for me to consider you disgusting... slightly less than half is an alarmingly high estimate considering my standard of perversion). Porn sites do as well as they do for this reason. I think so anyway... I wouldn't really know of course.

Sensual and touching it speaks to what love is and it is not just sexual. In fact that is only the icing on the cake. Love is the cake and all the work that goes into it. Lovely metaphor
