Christmas Spirit

A Poem by Ency Bearis
"

A Children Poem that I composed per request by a friend and read in front of the audience by one of Fil - Am Kids in the Christmas Party in Los Angeles, California, USA December1, 2013

Dear Santa Claus

This is our message to you because

We made a list of wishes, check it twice

Christmas gifts we want that could be nice

Toys, new clothes and shoes

Electronice gadgets as we chose

We think to have them somehow

And we want those gifts right now

But dear Santa, we changed our minds

After the news, conscience that bring to mind

As we had seen in TV, the harrowing events

That affected to people of the Philippines

Those were our brothers and sisters

We pity them as they suffers

Their life was crushed by eartquake and typhoon

And we think that they need help soon

The money for our gifts, give it to them instead

As they need food, clothes and shelter indeed

For our love, sharing, giving we can't put away

Christmas is not only for a day, can be everyday

We pray and let them recover, blessed them oh Lord

This is our wish - From the children of the world

The poem consists of a heart willing to give a sacrificial gift to the victims of Yolanda which I believe a product of love. Thinking of others than that of ourselves is very different for in the present times a lot of people think of themselves instead of others. There are people who are greedy for money and power where they usually think of themselves more that other people. A genuine heart in in you and it matters a lot because dead is the sense of giving for fame nor the act of giving for a very unpleasant reason. Being passionate in providing for the needs of the people is a good way of expressing a thankful heart for one of the reasons why we were blessed is because we have to bless others. Keep influencing other people.

However, let me now give a review on the content of the poem written. There is this inconsistent thought that I have noticed on your poem. On the first part of the poem, it states that the whole poem is written to Santa requesting that instead of giving the listed wish, let it be changed to a money and be given to the people experienced the typhoon Yolanda. Then, on the last part of the poem it ended with a prayer for recovery which builds confusion to the reader(especially when Christian) because the statement might be addressing Santa as "Lord" . I believe it may be better if Santa be change to Lord for it can create the idea of blasphemy. Santa is an unrealistic being and Santa cannot be compared to the real essence of Christmas who is Jesus.

Keep on writing :-)

This is awesome, Sir Ency. The real spirit of Christmas is giving. I know you have made that clear in the children's eyes during the party.
Thanks for this warm and kindhearted poem.

You're welcome po.
Very touching composition, sir. For some children Christmas is a day of receiving gifts but through this piece they showed us that at their young age they already know the real essence of Christmas, which is sharing.
