I Am JuanA Poem by Ency BearisA concept to the contingENCY not to BEARISh but to good-natured, happy at the end.Behind the curtain of the future I peeked upon to the day ahead As the age is taking out my vigor With an inquiry to my superego Where will I go to settledown ?
To my native land that cultivated my youth ? Or, here in America that I quaffed his apple juice ? With Uncle Sam that alleviates my indigence and able to help my family out of poorness Or with Juan in my native land ?
A debate between my heart and soul That made me confused where to go With the dispute I need to put in consideration With the contingency not to bearish But to a good-natured, happy at the end
Accidentally I looked at the mirror I saw the image that I am not a Caucasian Not a Red Neck nor an American Indian But this brown, short featured body With hooded eyelids though with brown eyes My soul said ; You're a typical Asian
I am so confused like Philosopher Confucius With the philosophical thoughts I am adopted American Although I accept, I am a Filipino by culture and value My conscience is in crisscross with my heart As I like Uncle Sam - but my heart is whispering To native land - I am Juan and I am one of Juan
